# Christian Dieterich Wed Mar 22 09:27:45 CET 2017 This is the README file for the model output of the coupled, regional model run RCA4-NEMO-ECHAM5 SRES A1B3. This run is part of a small ensemble of coupled model runs that have been used during the KLIWAS project. The ensemble consists of three coupled, regional models that have been run to downscale the historical period and the scenario period of the run ECHAM5/MPIOM SRES 20C3 A1B3. The present model run is called ./rca4_nemo/run_470. It was started on 1961-01-01 00:00:00 from initial conditions and ran until 2100-01-01 00:00:00. The period from 1961-01-01 00:00:00 to 2000-01-01 00:00:00 of run ./rca4_nemo/run_470 represents the historical period 20C3 of the downscaled ECHAM5/MPIOM 20C3 A1B3 scenario. The output files are written in netCDF-4 classic format (nccopy -k 4) and are deflated with compression level 1 (nccopy -d 1). The files are conformable to CF-1.4 (CF-1.6) conventions (http://cfconventions.org). The variable names and their standard names follow the suggestions in the lists http://cfconventions.org/Data/cf-standard-names/41/build/cf-standard-name-table.html http://cmip-pcmdi.llnl.gov/cmip5/docs/standard_output.pdf The naming of the files follows the CMIP5 conventions. There are certain exceptions: - tos and thetao units are in degrees Celsius (instead of degrees Kelvin). - sos and so units are in g/kg (instead of psu, compliant to CF-1.6). - mlotst could be interpreted as defined by sigma T, but it is defined by sigma Theta. - prlr, prcr, prsnr do not exist as CF compliant variables or variable names. RCA4 outputs precipitation rates (mm/output interval). These have been aggregated to (mm/month). The list of variables, together with variable ids, names, units and so on are found in the files mapping.*.txt. These have been used by the ./scripts/standarize.*.sh to map the model output onto a standardized form of the variables as described in the documents mentioned above.
